Anonymous asked: Nobody said it was nice and clean, but unfortunately this is the best way to organize a system of selfish people. What's your alternative?
I’m not looking for an alternative, rather improve what we have. I think “corporate personhood” should change, CEOs should be help more accountable, oversight and regulation of massive industries like derivatives should be increased.
I think the “less taxes” mantra is completely wrong. When Reagan started his war on the middle class, the highest marginal tax rate was around 70%. Lowering it had context.
Now that they are around 35%, lowering it makes no sense in light of our deficits, our borrowing, our threats of ending services like medicare and social security.
Lowering taxes in 1980 was the start of our downfall. Trying to still cut taxes in 2011 is so out of touch with reality, so counter-productive to emulating America’s glory years, so counter-intuitive to how a modern society is managed, it comes down to a person’s own denial, identity politics, and willful ignorance.
