Nearly Half of All Families Get Government Checks

Bloomberg: “A record 49% of Americans live in a household where someone receives at least one type of government benefit, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. And 63% of all federal spending this year will consist of checks written to individuals for which the government receives currently no services [i.e., checks for military retirements, service connected disabilities, and social security are payment for previously rendered service and contributions], the White House budget office estimates. That’s up from 46% in 1975 and 18% in 1940.”

“Those figures will climb in coming years. The 75 million baby boomers have only begun their long march into retirement, while President Obama’s health-care overhaul will extend insurance coverage to more than 30 million additional people.”

That is the reality. Retirees, military retirees, Government retirees, they all get checks. And a lot of these people vote Republican.

The problem with Conservatives is their willful ignorance about who really gets checks, and more to the point, who “deserves” them. They have an outdated Republican viewpoint from the 1980’s: when they hear “government check” they immediately think “welfare”. And when they think welfare they think of black people who won’t work and are having babies.

Those stereotypes are over and our society needs to get real.

The American people have watched for the last two plus years a tea bagging Republican party that would rather destroy the nation then do anything that would help the American people. 

Do you honestly think the American people can trust the tea bagging Republicans who have made it crystal clear that they want to destroy Social Security and Medicare?

Do you honestly think millions of Baby Boomers trust the tea bagging Republicans party that doesn’t give a damn to protect their benefits?

Do you honesty think millions of Baby Boomers will vote to cut their own throats?
